The Plain Dealer ran this article on 4.1.2007 about how Democratic lobbyists are now in demand in Columbus. This is because of the election of Ted Strickland. One of those profiled is David Leland, former chair of the Ohio Democratic Party, who was the chief fundraiser for Strickland. Another one profiled is Rick Brunner, attorney and husband of Jennifer Brunner.
We expect that some bloggers are going to view all of this with suspicion. Frankly, we think its great. Democratic lobbyists who are successful will be in a position to raise more money for Democratic state-wide candidates which in turn will help Democrats win re-election in 2010. The 2010 election will be extremely important because it will determine who controls the Reapportionment Board, which is the body that draws the lines for Ohio's General Assembly.
Until something is done, if ever, to change the way we finance elections in Ohio, money is going to be needed to win elections and obtain political power. Democratic lobbyists will help the Democratic Party do both.
