Washington Post: U.S. Attorney Fired Because of Not Supporting Bush's Policies

The Washington Post ran a story in the March 3rd edition reporting that the White House, aka, the Bush Administration, backed the mass firings of the seven U.S. Attorneys. The reason is that they were not carrying out Bush's policies on prosecution of illegal immigrants, firearms, and other issues. So what this means is that the Bush Administration is realizing that this is not going to blow over and they are trying to give their supporters on Capitol Hill some ammunition when the hearing start this next week in the Senate.

This is a very interesting development. This story was obviously leaked to the Washington Post by Bush Administration officials. They are trying to push back against the theme that the U.S. Attorneys were fired because they were too vigorous in prosecuting Republicans for public corruption or not vigorous enough prosecuting Democrats. In order to do that, though, they had to come up with an explanation that makes sense, so they came up with this one. In doing so, however, they have now put the White House's fingerprints on this decision. This will give a reason for Democrats to try and find out which officials in the White House or the Justice Department wanted them fired. It will also give a new direction for reporters pursuing this story. All in all this is not going well for the Bushies.
